Waves Waiting, Gear Ready

Already a pro but forgotten your board? Had a few lessons and want to try going your own way? No bother, we have awesome rental packages available.

We offer basic beginners’ foamboards for the majority of rentals, however we do have hardboards available for the more experienced surfer. Our O’Neill rental wetsuits are available for hire, if it’s particularly chilly you can rent boots, gloves or hoods for a good price.

Our surfboard rentals cover a two hour period and must remain on Tramore beach. To rent, you need to be a good/confident swimmer, over 18 and surf at an intermediate/advanced level. In rough surfing conditions, we only rent out to advanced surfers – if it’s particularly choppy (usually in the winter months) we have to close down rentals. It’s best to phone ahead and check conditions to make sure your journey isn’t wasted.

A photo ID is required as a deposit for all rentals.

Safety First

All rentals are weather-dependent and require that you’ve had a surf lesson before. This helps ensure you’re confident, safe, and able to handle the conditions on the day.

Private Lifeguard Option

If you’d like an extra layer of safety, you can hire one of our fully qualified lifeguards to supervise your surf rental session. Ideal for families, beginners, or anyone who wants added peace of mind while out on the water.

Do You Have a Question?

Here’s a quick run through of questions we get asked most. Have a question and can’t find an answer here? Give us a call on 051 391 011 and one of our friendly team members will help you.

What equipment can I rent?

We offer surfboards, wetsuits, boots, gloves, and hoods/hats. You can rent individual items or a full set depending on what you need.

Do I need experience to rent equipment?

Yes. For safety reasons, rentals are only available to people who have previously taken a surf lesson and have basic ocean confidence.

Do I need to book rentals in advance?

No — all rentals are first come, first served from our beach hut. During busy weekends and summer holidays, arriving early is recommended.

How long is a rental session?

A standard rental lasts 2 hours, with the option to extend if equipment is available and conditions are safe.

Do I need to leave a deposit?

Yes, you’ll need to leave a photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, or student card) as a deposit for all rental equipment.

What size wetsuit will I get?

We carry a wide range of kids’ and adults’ sizes. Our team will fit you with the right wetsuit to ensure comfort, warmth, and safety.

What type of surfboards do you rent?

We rent beginner soft-top boards, intermediate boards, and a small selection of hardboards. Our staff can recommend the best board based on your experience and the conditions.

Are rentals weather-dependent?

Yes. If conditions are unsafe — strong winds, big surf, or dangerous currents — we may limit or pause rentals for safety.

Can I rent gear if I’ve never surfed before?

No — beginners need to take a surf lesson first. This ensures you understand ocean safety, board control, and how to stay in designated safe zones.

Do you offer supervised sessions?

Yes. You can hire a private lifeguard to supervise your time in the water. This is ideal for families, groups of beginners, or anyone who wants extra safety support.

Can I keep the gear for the whole day?

Yes, depending on demand and conditions. Ask our staff and we’ll let you know if extended rentals are available.

Do you provide changing facilities?

Yes — changing areas are available beside the beach hut so you can get in and out of your wetsuit easily.

What should I bring with me?

Just swimwear for under the wetsuit, a towel, sunscreen, and water. We provide all surf-specific gear.

Is there somewhere to store valuables?

We recommend leaving valuables at home. Limited small-item storage may be available but cannot be guaranteed.

Can kids rent equipment?

Yes — as long as they’ve previously had a surf lesson and a parent or guardian is present. Young children must be supervised closely at all times.

What time do rentals close?

Rental hours vary by season and daylight. In summer, we’re usually open until around 5.30pm (sometimes later); off-peak hours are shorter. Check with our team on the day for current closing times.
